As a massivecrazyinsaneobsessed Lost fan, I was left satisfied by the finale. There are many loose ends but I was not disappointed overall. But this is the #1 thing I wish had more context to it. I guess it was a dropped storyline. Or maybe it was just an indication that this message to himself was proof to the audience that he remembered Desmond from several years prior, as if the memory was just planted in his head at this very moment of time because Desmond had just traveled back in time and the meeting between the two did not occur the first time around.
