I am Jenni Lou and I was born on September 19, 1979 and live in Homewood, Illinois, which is just south of Chicago. I am a perpetual college student. I graduated high school at 16 years old and subsequently attended college. I have been in and out of college since 1996 and have not yet completed a degree, not because of my ignorance or stupidity, but rather for utter lack of monetary funds. I began majoring in film with a concentration in screenwriting, however I found that I much preferred to compose prose. I switched my major to fiction writing, but I continued to take film classes because I loved studying and writing about them. I am a self-taught person; I truly do educate myself and there are few things I have learned from going to an actual class. That might sound pretentious, but I don’t mean it to. Really, the fact is that I educate myself about my interest and hobbies. Film and screenwriting, for example, I began learning at age 9. I would walk to the library and do research on my screenplay-of-the-moment and check out books, such as Wells Root’s Writing the Script and then journey to the video store, rent the 6 limit of videos and watch them all night long. Literally. My mother would drop me off at the theater at 11am on Saturday and/or Sunday, I’d pay for one movie and then watch four more before she would pick me back up at 11pm. The folks at the theatre didn’t seem to mind. I own hundreds of books, many of which are related to the fields of film and writing.
Now I am a mother and wife. I had my daughter, Raina, on October 5, 2006 and married my husband, Pete, on July 25, 2009. We have a dog, Lady, a black Labrador that we adopted a few years back; she never barks or jumps and doesn’t even really like to go outside. Which seems odd to me since I have grown up with a few different black Labs but none are quite like Lady.
