February site of the month
February 2, 2010

For February I have selected a site that is another great resource for people like me. It is hotn-caps.com, or Home of the Nutty, which is its full name, The site has moved to a temporary new location so the content is being re-uploaded. Nonetheless, this is a great site for your HQ screen capture needs. Feauturing series such as

The Vampire Diaries, Grey’s Anatomy, Supernatural, the more recent Life Unexpected, as well as others, hotn-caps.com is a fantastic destination and should land a sure place in your bookmarks. Keep checking back as they are sure to re-add more fandoms.

new layout: Michelle Williams
January 31, 2010

I never really plan on making a new layout, I will just decide out of the blue one day, as I did with this one. And then I just sort of work and work on it until it is done. And it is! These Michelle Williams pictures are so lovely, I didn’t even do much to them. Thanks to Jamie at allstars-online.net who linked these pictures from her twitter account, I was able to find these!

I hope you like it. I’ve never done anything quite so monochromatic but I like it! If you are viewing the site in IE, it’s not going to look as good as it does in Firefox. I applied a few css tricks that don’t work for that browser. But it’s brows-able in IE anyway.

I’m still doing some tweaks around the various sections, so pardon any mess you may encounter.

minor navigation change
January 17, 2010

I’ve split the media section into two different sections, as the media page was getting a bit too long.

As such, I have added some new navigational images–downloads and tutorials–so if the navigation looks weird to you, try refreshing the page. Happy browsing! :D

January site of the month
January 4, 2010

With the end of Battlestar Galactica, the galacticawatercooler.com podcast, or GWC as it is commonly known, has grown onto to explore a wide variety of geekery. Movies, tv, webseries, comic books, games, pop culture. Often times, they examine film franchises–such as Back to the Future, The Matrix, Alien, Terminator, The Lord of the Rings and more!–or web series such as Dr. Horrible and The Guild. They even dedicated several hours to Carl Sagan’s Cosmos, that educational and engaging documentary seies many of us remember from our youth. Those were particularly interesting podcasts. The three hosts–Chuck, Audra and Sean–are all very intelligent and observant people. But they’re funny too. They make no apologies for being sci-fi geeks. And that’s who this podcast is for. Geeks.

They also score some cool interviews from time to time. They recently spoke with Ann Druyan and Nick Sagan, widow and son respectively, of Carl Sagan. Also recently, they were talking with former DC and Marvel Comics editor Bob Greenberger. And they’ve spoken to much of the cast Battlestar Galactica.

This is simply a skilled and well-produced podcast. The sound is great and the content is meaty. Chuck, Audra and Sean come off as professional radio personalities. They don’t have a lot of “ums and likes” peppered across their speech. They just have very natural conversations about lots of different topics. This is a highly recommended podcast I suggest you try out. I listen to over 30 podcasts and this is one of a few that I highly anticipate each week.

December Site of the Month
December 2, 2009

fandomania.com. Good for Geeks. A website dedicated to reviews, news and recaps of lots of things fandom. Comic books, games, TV, movies, among other fan areas, are explored on the site. They’re also good about keeping you updated on Twitter without flooding your [insert your chosen Twitter interface here], something I can appreciate in a fansite.

But, to be honest, the podcast is what I like most about the site. Each Monday, recently married hosts Jason and Celeste, talk about their week in fandom. What TV they watched, games they played, movies they saw, comic books they read. And they gives us their takes on it all. They don’t cater to a higher audience; they are honest and critical about the things they discuss. And I always like to hear lots of perspectives on the things I personally enjoy. These two are good perspectives to hear.

So if you are looking for another place to check out what other geeks like are you are talking about, check out fandomania.com.

downtime
November 24, 2009

The site, obviously, was down for quite some time. Part of last and pretty much all day. It was a system-wide network failure with Dreamhost. Hopefully, the issues have all been resolved and we won’t experience any more downtime.

I’ll be doing an update or two later tonight or tomorrow. You can always follow me through twitter or livejournal to keep up to date with the site, in case it goes down again. Links for those are to your right. :)
