video: 24 meets Lost meets Community on The Soup
February 12, 2010

I love The Soup! It’s funny and absurd and a great way to gets some laughs out of all the crappy reality tv and talk shows out there without actually having to watch them.

The Soup was awesome enough to upload this clip and tumblr user critictoo was awesome enough to post it for me to find. It further proves that Michael Emerson is brilliant and strange and yes–I’ll use the word once again–awesome.

watch HBO’s Bored to Death for free!
September 16, 2009

I am really excited about this show. And it premieres this Sunday night. But today you can watch the first episode of Bored to Death for free on HBO on Demand or it is available as a free download on iTunes. I don’t know how long it will be up but go and catch it will you can! I haven’t had the chance to watch it myself just yet but will do so tonight!

This series hasn’t seemed to get a lot of press so if you haven’t heard it it, here’s a synopsis courtest of HBO:

Jonathan Ames, a young Brooklyn writer, is feeling lost. He’s just gone through a painful break-up, thanks in part to his drinking, can’t write his second novel, and carouses too much with his magazine editor. Rather than face reality, Jonathan turns instead to his fantasies — moonlighting as a private detective — because he wants to be a hero and a man of action.

The offbeat comedy series ‘Bored to Death,’ created by Jonathan Ames (author of several books, including the acclaimed graphic novel ‘The Alcoholic’), follows the misadventures of a fictional Jonathan Ames as he pursues his quixotic dream of emulating his heroes from classic private detective novels.

‘Bored to Death’ stars Jason Schwartzman (‘The Darjeeling Limited’) as Jonathan Ames; Ted Danson (‘Damages,’ HBO’s ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’) as George Christopher, a high-profile magazine editor and Jonathan’s boss; and Zach Galifianakis (‘The Hangover’) as comic book illustrator Ray Hueston, Jonathan’s confidant. BORED TO DEATH was created by Jonathan Ames; executive producers, Jonathan Ames, Sarah Condon, Stephanie Davis, Dave Becky and Troy Miller; co-executive producer, Tracey Baird; producers, Mark Baker and Anna Dokoza.

And an extended trailer too!

televisionaryblog.com advance review of True Blood
June 11, 2009

I’ve been reading all the True Blood news and reviews that have come my way and for the most part, they’ve been okay. Kind of the same old, same old quality to them all. Occassionally I will stumble on an interesting article but I feel like I’ve been reading the same thing over and over.

But for second time in about a week, Jace over at televisionaryblog.com has written yet another advanced review for a series I love and offers up some tasty hints about what we can expect for season two! The tricky thing is, he doesn’t actually give away any major spoilers, and yet…I feel like I know more. Does that make any sense? And he manages to touch on all of the characters, including the smaller supporting ones and we all know how often they are ignored. And the Jason story line, which I was admittedly nervous about, suddenly doesn’t seem to worrisome; it seems Jace has taken a liking to the Newlins. I hope I will too!

A sampling from his blog entry: Expect more than the usual amount of sex and gut-wrenching gore as True Blood heads to even darker places these season. Find out more for yourself.

Let your geek flag fly, Conan!
June 4, 2009

Okay, so I have been a pretty big fan of Conan O’Brien’s since the early 90s. I was always a night person anyway and I used to stay up late on school nights and watch Late Night. And you know, Conan wrote for Saturday Night Live during its height–in my opinion anyway–when the cast was full of what would become quite a slew of well-recognized movie stars. And he wrote for The Simpsons during one of its best times as well! So basically, Conan = awesome.

But I have to be honest. I haven’t watched him a long time. I’m just not by my tv when his show is on. And I have too much shit on the DVR as is. I know if I recorded it I would just accumulate a backlog of episodes. And that just makes me feel bad. So I haven’t seen him on The Tonight Show yet. But I stumbled on this image of his set and it is just too fun and outrageous! He must have some Mario geeks n the set design staff.

Thanks to seriouslunch.com for this hilarity! Nintendo thinks “it’s great!” :

Alan Ball answers fan questions
June 4, 2009

HBO put up a short but insightful video clip in which Alan Ball answers a few fan questions. He also provides a few short clues as to what we can expect in season two as far as Bill and Sookie are concerned. And Eric, too, for that matter. Alan always has some interesting things to say and you can tell he’s a big fan of the Southern Vampire Mystery novels on which True Blood is based. Only about 9 days to go for the second season premiere. And in case you couldn’t tell already by the vast amount of fanarts I make for this fandom…I can’t fucking wait. :D

Weeds Season Five, coming soon
June 4, 2009

Weeds season five is premiering this coming Monday and Jace over at televisionaryblog.com has a great little article about some things we can expect to see from Nancy and her crew in the first episodes. I, for one, am excited as Weeds–in addition to the premiere of Burn Notice tonight–helps kick off my summer tv season! Here’s a taste of what Jace had to say:

What always worked for me on Showtime’s dark comedy series Weeds was the fact that while Nancy seemed to be floundering morally, she was always attempting to keep her family together in the face of increasing adversity, trying to hold on to the American dream of a house in the suburbs with a pool and an endless supply of caffeinated beverages.

So what quite went wrong? Season Four of Weeds found Nancy (Mary-Louise Parker) becoming increasingly shrill and unsympathetic and taking bigger and bigger risks, even after leaving Agrestic following her decision to burn down her house and jumping into bed with a Mexican drug lord (Demian Bichir). When we last saw Nancy, she was about to be killed by Esteban for ratting him out to the federali and she pulled out her ace in the hole: a sonogram depicting her unborn child, the result of her union with Esteban.

Does the last-ditch ploy work and is Nancy able to save her own life?

>> Read more over at his blog. There will be some light spoilers though. ;)
